Methodology and Qualifications
These two sections are short and easy to skim, but a good prosecutor will check them carefully before relying on the report. Look for:

- Investigator credentials — relevant certifications, experience years, prior testifying experience

The Transaction Trace
The transaction trace is the factual core. It is usually presented as a table or numbered list of hops, each with:
- Step number (origin = 0; each subsequent hop incremented)
- Sending address
- Receiving address

- Asset and amount
- Timestamp (UTC)

The trace ends at the current location of the funds. That is the most important data point in the entire report. If the trace ends at an exchange deposit address — start drafting the preservation letter immediately. If it ends at a mixer entry, the trace is technically complete but recovery is more difficult. The sworn declaration converts the report from an investigator's work product into evidence. It is signed under penalty of perjury and contains the investigator's attestation to methodology, qualifications, and findings.
